Dear Barbara,
April/May 2020
On Mother’s Day I got the most beautiful card I have ever received from my youngest daughter, Erin. In her precious note, she said this, “I saw this quote recently and it made me think of you: ‘There are souls in this world who have the gift of finding JOY everywhere and leaving it behind them when they go.‘ Thank you for being you and for being the best Mom and loving me no matter what!”

I will save this note forever. I pray perhaps that may be the simple legacy I might leave in this world, and it is one I learned from my own dear Mother. On this month of Mother’s Day, I hope you each focus on the memories of all those women who have enriched your life.
This has been a trying time for all of us with the shelter-in-place order and social distancing. However, for many of us it has been a blessing in disguise, a sabbatical, a plateau time to think about what is really important in our lives.
I have donated 7 boxes of business books and at least 7 boxes of files to the Florida Speaker’s Chapter. I have thrown away over 25 crates of things I have saved for my work and writing, emptied an entire file cabinet and donated it, and have found many things that so touched my heart – dozens of emails and cards and letters from clients and audience members, letters from my father and grandfather, stories of our family history, all the letters Charlie and I wrote to each other before we were married, and even some ration stamps from WWII!

I have had time to play my piano, write in my journal, talk to friends and family, read books I have “put on the shelf,” and send all kinds of special things I had saved to the people who sent them to me. Each day I have thanked God for where I live as the daily walks on the beach or swimming a mile in the pool have helped me keep my sanity. And a special plus is that I have gotten a great tan! 😉

Through all this time, I have spent much time in thought and prayer for those I love and those who are suffering because of this pandemic. Both my daughters have been laid off, but goodness has come out of even that. Gretchen is spending precious time with her husband and two boys. They have gone on long walks, taken bike rides and played lots of family games. Erin and I have been able to talk several times a week, and she is also riding her bike and working in her yard which are things her work has never allowed her to do. Garrett and Ashley and their children have each found a path that brings them joy…..and I am so grateful that they all are safe and healthy.

What have you done with this extra time? How have you found some joy even in the midst of worry and fear? What lessons have you learned? My prayer for each of us is that we have found depth and meaning in the joy of simply having one more day on this earth to love and care for those around us and our world. None of us knows what the future may bring, yet we all have THIS DAY to cherish!
Blessings,
“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.”  Eleanor Roosevelt
“How can I describe you? Caring and compassionate Friend! Woman of faith! Creative Communicator! Encouraging Role Model! Positive Influencer! Superb Speaker! You are each of these and more. May the day be filled with joy as you celebrate God’s goodness and graciousness in your life!” ~Chuck Moore Former President of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Oak Brook, IL
NEW VIDEO DEMO!!!
I am thrilled to show you my brand new 12 minute video demo tape. I would love to hear your responses at bglanz@barbaraglanz.com. It was created by ‘H’ JOHN MEJIA from In the Zone TV in Tampa, FL, www.inthezonetv.com.
After taping me at an event in Tampa, he took my hundreds of hours of footage from all over the world and created a video that I think exemplifies the heart of my passion and message and truly differentiates me as a speaker. He was AMAZING to work with and a true professional. I HIGHLY recommend him for any kind of video work…..and he is a lovely man of character as well. Click on this link to watch now.
“I recently attended a seminar given by Barbara Glanz. It was uplifting, inspirational and thought provoking from start to finish. Barbara is passionate and engages the audience in a way few speakers can. I would highly recommend Barbara to any group looking to elevate their performance and joy for the mission.”

Where in the World is Barbara?
NEWS FROM BARBARA
I just got an amazing email from a former client and friend from Michigan. He told me he had presented a copy of “The Simple Truths of Service Inspired by Johnny the Bagger®,” the book I wrote with Ken Blanchard, to the owners of companies in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal. South America, Spain,
Dali’s famous mustache from “Gardens of the Mind” exhibit at Selby Gardens
Sweden, Dubai, China, and Canada. WOW!!! What a champion he is! (Now I wish all those countries would invite me to come to speak — after we can travel again, of course!

Like many of my speaking colleagues, all my bookings and travel have cancelled, including the Society for Human Resource Management conference which had booked me to speak for my 23rd year. However, I have been busy preparing for several virtual presentations including speaking remotely for the INSPIRE conference and doing some speaker coaching. Life has changed drastically for all of us. May is my birthday month, so celebrations this year will probably all be virtual, something I would never have expected! Please, as we work our way through these changing times. let me know any ways I might be of help to you.
“Barbara kept our audience engaged with her enthusiasm and humor. Her personal life experiences were an inspiration to us all to be resilient and thankful.”
-Cordreanne Richardson, Director of Purchasing, Tampa Bay Steel, Tampa, Florida

·     Your back goes out more than you do.
·     Your ears are hairier than your head.
·     Your secrets are safe with your friends because they don’t remember either.

Quotations of the Month
Many things are possible for the person who has hope. Even more is possible for the person who has faith. And still more is possible for the person who knows how to love. But everything is possible for the person who practices all three virtues.” ~ Brother Lawrence
“The connections we make in the course of a lifetime – maybe that is what heaven is.” ~ Fred Rogers

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.”  ~ Groucho Marx
“Absolutely loved Barbara Glanz!! She did a fantastic job with her presentation and some of the things she said and pointed out have really resonated with me. I’ve already put some of her suggestions into practice. For example, I’ve already complimented several people for the work that they do to make them feel appreciated 🙂 I really liked her positive, fun spirit and her outlook on life. Even though she has been through many trials she doesn’t focus on her circumstances. I would highly recommend her to speak at any event. Awesome choice to choose her as a speaker! I look forward to reading her material on the internet and/or books.”
