NEWS
This has been a very eventful spring and summer for me, filled with good adventures, lots of love, and some difficult times as well. In February I was honored to speak to the Seattle chapter of the National Speakers Association, in March the Gawlik family from Portland, OR, came for a fun week, and then in April and May I had to have eye surgery. It involved putting stents in both eyes and 7 weeks of not being able to do any exercising. I really missed swimming my mile several times a week!

The end of May I celebrated a BIG birthday with all my kids and grands at my son’s vacation home on Camano Island near Seattle. The kids all worked together and blessed me with a wonderful weekend – barbeque on the beach, decorations, an electronic picture frame which they had all stocked with hundreds of pictures, and best of all, a family photo shoot on the beach! I then went back with the Portland crew to attend Owen’s high school graduation, another family milestone.

The most exciting part of the summer was a trip to Positano, Italy, with Frank and his
family for 9 days. He rented a gorgeous villa at the top of the mountain for all 14 of us.
The Amalfi Coast is lovely, but the trip was strenuous with tons of stairs and walking
(four flights just to get in and out of our villa and 30 flights to the beach!) We loved the
boat trips, Capri, Sorrento, Ravelo, the food, the wine, and even toured a lemon farm.
After 30 hours of travel, as soon as we returned to Sarasota, I had a driver take me to
Orlando for the 50 th anniversary NSA convention. Sadly, this whole trip did not end well
as Frank, my significant other, had a stroke the following week in Atlanta. As a result,
he is going to live there fulltime to be close to his daughters. That will really change my
life since we have been together for over 9 years. I will desperately miss him!

After this hard news, I am especially grateful to have some things to look forward to in
August and September. In early August, I am going to visit Laurie Flasko, a dear
speaker friend in Niagara Falls, while at the end of August, I will be flying to
Washington, DC, for the Veteran Speakers Retreat. And finally, in September my travel
buddy, Nancy Cobb, from Chicago and I will take a 12 day trip to Portugal – 3 nights in
Lisbon and 7 nights aboard the MS Amalia Rodrigues traveling the Douro River, and
ending with two days in Porto.
I end with a thought that has been foremost in my mind as my keynote speaking has
slowed down since the Pandemic and now I am facing the loss of Frank in my life:
“You cannot begin a new chapter in your life until you stop rereading the last
one.”
I find I am now starting a new chapter in my personal life as well as a new chapter in my
professional life. You will read about my new adventure offering Personal and Executive
Coaching for those who want to enhance their speaking careers or perhaps start a new
one. I wish you joy wherever you may be in your life. May you have a blessed summer
and fall.
And finally, a beautiful passage from “As Long as There Is Love, There Will Be Grief”
by Heidi Priebe
“The grief of time passing, of life moving on half-finished, of empty spaces that were
once bursting with the laughter and energy of people we loved.
As long as there is love, there will be grief because grief is love’s natural continuation. It
shows up in the aisles of stores we once frequented, in the half-finished bottle of wine
we pour out, in the whiff of cologne we get two years after they’ve been gone,
Grief is a giant neon sign, protruding through everything, pointing everywhere,
broadcasting loudly, ‘Love was here.’
In the finer print, quietly, ‘Love still is.’ “

NEW PERSONAL AND EXECUTIVE COACHING
|
|
I have been asked many times over the years to help both new and experienced speakers improve their presentations, write book proposals, and/or share knowledge of the speaking profession. Always I have done this as my “giving back” gift. But recently I have been asked by a number of speaker friends to approach this coaching more
professionally and over longer periods of time.
I have realized that after 30+ years in this business, I know a lot about the industry, the profession, and the requirements to be successful, so, as a result, I have devised four Coaching Packages that fulfill the needs that speakers have been sharing with me. I am thoroughly enjoying working with several clients these past few months, so please
let me know if I might be able to help you or someone you know. To be part of an industry that is making a difference in this world every day is a very special blessing!
Go to https://barbaraglanz.com/programs/personal-executive-coaching/ for a more
detailed description, including Prework and what you will receive in each package.
This package is for the speaker who wants to improve or spice up an
existing keynote speech.
This package is for the speaker who wants guidance and expertise crafting
a new keynote.
This option is a comprehensive package for the newer speaker who wants
in depth, ongoing input and guidance over a three-to-six-month period to
craft a new presentation. As a result of this work, you will have a clear
understanding of the necessary tools to be successful in this industry.
This package is for the person who wants to become a speaker and to achieve the knowledge, confidence, and clarity to be successful in the Professional Speaking Industry.
This package will take six-months to complete the process.
Objectives:
- To understand the depth and breadth of the speaking industry and examine the tools needed to succeed.
- To capitalize on your many successes and to leverage your personal experiences, education, and expertise.
- To guide and assist you in the design process to create a powerful and inspirational presentation/keynote.

IDEA OF THE MONTH – Listening and Living
|
|
Advice Is Not Listening
When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving advice, you have not done what I asked.
When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my
problems, you have failed me, strange as that may seem.
Listen! All I ask is that you listen. Not talk or do…just hear me. And I can DO for myself;
I’m not helpless. Maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.
When you do something for me that I can and need to do for myself, you contribute to
my fear and weakness.
But when you accept as a simple fact that I do feel what I feel, no matter how irrational,
then I quit trying to convince you and get about the business of understanding what's
behind this irrational feeling. And when that’s clear, the answers are obvious and I don’t
need advice.
So, please listen and just hear me, and if you want to talk, wait a minute for your turn;
and I’ll listen to you.

- Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.

- Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
- Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been.

“Barbara Glanz, I know that your speaking career allowed you to reach out to thousands
and thousands. Probably exceeds your million miles on Delta. And I am equally
confident in saying each of those individuals had the opportunity to leave the encounter
a better person. Barbara, you have gifted me with so much encouragement. As I drove
you to the airport years ago, you outlined how I should write the book I proposed. Turns
out that book has helped people around the globe. You were the spark that started the
fire !” ~ Bob Kramer
