What a special month June was for me and my family! First, I had the privilege of speaking for my 22nd year at the Society for Human Resource Management national conference in Las Vegas. On Sunday, the first half day of the conference, I had 1000 people in my session on “Creating a Culture of Kindness,” and on Tuesday I had almost 2500 people for my presentation on “The Simple Truths of Appreciation.” I felt so very blessed to be a messenger of inspiration, ideas, and hope to the wonderful folks who take care of all the precious human beings in their organizations!
Then, the last week of June I took all my children and grandchildren (minus my 21 year old grandson who had to work) for a four day weekend in Long Beach, Washington. We rented a big house with 5 bedrooms, a media room with over 200 movies, a play room filled with toys and a pool table, a huge family room, and an outdoor fireplace and hot tub. It was on a lake and just a mile from the beach. They had two kayaks, a canoe and a paddle boat for the six adults, three kids, and three dogs to use. The most fun event was finding tie-dyed sweat shirts at Larry’s Liquidators which were a bargain because the “g” in “Washington” was missing. This will be our goofy family picture on the 2019 Christmas card and a great memory of a delightful family weekend 😉

As summer is slowly coming to an end, I look forward to two international trips and three trips within the USA. Though I love traveling, enjoying new sights and cultures, and meeting wonderful people, I always feel overcome with gratitude when I walk off the plane and find myself back in America. I have now been in 100 different countries, and this is the best one in the whole world! I hope your summer has been filled with fun, adventure, rest, and lots of love.
Blessings,

If each of us would do at least one kind thing a day, think of how much better our world could be.

“Thank you, Barbara, for joining us today. I took much away from your presentation. Thanks for sharing your insights with us. You are captivating as a storyteller. Wish I had that skill. “

Idea of the Month – Deliberate Acts of Kindness
|
|
DELIBERATE ACTS OF KINDNESS
|
When I speak on KINDNESS, I use the acronym KIND:
K = Kinesthetic
I = Imaginative
N = Neighborly
D = Deliberate
|
|
|
I always share with my audiences that random acts of kindness are good, but DELIBERATE acts of kindness are even better because they are thoughtful and planned, sometimes even at the last moment. Recently I have experienced two wonderful DELIBERATE acts of kindness which I want to share with you to encourage you to become even more aware of all the precious moments every day that you can deliberately do something kind for someone. “I loved Barbara’s session. This is my first SHRM meeting and this is the first session that I attended. I actually cried. I got a lot of inspiration from her and she’s such a wonderful speaker. I think you will really benefit a lot from her teaching.”

Uncle Wayne’s Favorite Quotes

“Sayings I Like”….From Uncle Wayne
Many of you may remember the story of my new 99 year old friend, Uncle Wayne from Shell Knob, MO, who has been passing out my books all over the country because he “wants to make a difference in the time he has left.” He has been such an INSPIRATION to me and to so many – at 99 he does email, has an Iphone, his own website, and even a YouTube channel! A man of deep character, he truly is living every day to the fullest – a lesson to us all. How blessed I feel to have met him!
With my encouragement, he has just finished a book about his life. One of the chapters is “Sayings I Like.” He has given me permission to share them with you:
* “When we depart this world, all that matters is not how much money we have made or the possessions we have. What matters are the lives we have touched, the love we have shown, and the memories we have made.” Author Unknown
* “So many people come into our lives and then leave the way they came, but there are those precious few who touch our heart so deeply we will never be the same.” ~ Flavia Wooden
* “You may not think the world needs you, but it does. For you are unique like no one that has ever been before you or will come after. No one can speak with your voice, say your piece, smile your smile, or shine your light. No one can take your place, for it is for you alone to fill. If you are not there to shine your light, who knows how many travelers will lose their way as they try to pass by your empty place in the darkness.” ~ Lawrence and Hazel Mahar
* “No amount of darkness can smother out the light of a single candle.” ~ Author Unknown
* “Everything you need is already inside of you. Do not wait for others to light your fire. You already have your own matches!” ~ Author Unknown
* “Deep within each person is an intense desire to feel strong, effective, powerful and in control of his or her own life. You automatically trigger that feeling of self-confidence and self-esteem when you start to work on the task that is most important to you at the moment.” ~ Shobha Lyer
* “Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.” ~ Mother Teresa
* “When you see a stranger, give them your smile. It may be the only sunshine they will see all day. If you see someone without a smile, you can always give them one of yours.”
* “In the time I’ve got left, I just want to make this world a better place.” ~ Uncle Wayne Williams

“I probably have seen Barbara for twenty times at the SHRM conference. I’ve used so many of her ideas at home and personal life. She’s made my life better and enriched it because of all of the things that she’s given me. Thank you Barbara.”
