My thought for all of us for 2021:
Every person who comes into our lives is a gift. Sometimes we can just untie the ribbons. Other times we can peek inside, but the best times are when we can dig down deep and discover the most wonderful gift of that soul. If we pass up the opportunity for a human level connection, we have missed a VERY precious gift. May 2021 be filled with these life-changing, miraculous gifts of CONNECTION for each of us.
And one more: You never really know the impact you have on those around you. You never know how much someone needed that smile you gave them. You never know how much your kindness turned someone’s entire life around. You never know how much someone needed that long hug or deep talk. So don’t wait to be kind. Don’t wait for someone else to be kind first. Don’t wait for better circumstances or for someone to change. Just be kind, because you never know how much someone needs it.

HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME
This was sent to me by a friend, and I think it has some very helpful information in case you come down with the virus.  However, my prayer is that we will all be safe until we can get the vaccine.  
No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. A friend of mine came down with Covid in November. She went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While there, they treated her for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia.
The doctor sent her home to fight Covid with two prescriptions – Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethasone 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge her, she asked her, “What can I do to help fight this at home?” The nurse said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of health issues, sleep on your side. Do not lie on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in.
Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have.
When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight – do not lie back in the recliner. Again, this will smash your lungs. While watching TV, get up and walk during every commercial.
Eat at least 1 – 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero and Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. 
 
Do not drink anything cold – have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and a little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter.
 
Vitamins D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Take Tylenol for fever. Mucinex or Mucinex DM is good for drainage, plus it helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin every day can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity.”
We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn’t a lot of information out there regarding how to deal with the virus when we are fighting it at home.  I hope these tips will help you or your friends and family if you do get it.
NEW VIRTUAL PRESENTATION
Even in the midst of the pandemic, Barbara continues to inspire others via Zoom. She especially loves this group since she is from Harlan,Iowa, and she also was a high school and college English and drama teacher. She even directed David Hasselhof in his first high school play! She has the deepest admiration for all teachers, especially with the challenges they have had to face during this crisis. A huge “thank you” to all of you!

ARTICLE OF THE MONTH
  
BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE DON’T JUST HAPPEN!

Since we are in the midst of a very difficult time in this world and many of us are suffering significant losses, I hope this article can bring some comfort. Good CAN come out of any crisis if we simply look for the blessings.  My prayer is that we will all be more beautiful people after this pandemic has ended.

As a young person, my whole life seemed to fit the plans that I had for myself and my future.  Certainly, I had my share of disappointments and hurt; however, I was always able to get back on track and meet all the goals I had set for myself.  Then, at age 27 my whole life fell apart in tragedies that were completely beyond my control.
 
Chronologically in 18 months, my gentle mother-in-law suffered a horrible death from liver cancer, my father at age 62 without any warning died of a heart attack, our infant son died after a completely normal pregnancy and birth, our St. Bernard puppy “Nanna” had a heart attack during a simple surgery, and I found a lump in my breast.  With each consecutive tragedy, I realized more and more my complete helplessness.
During that devastating time, I came to two decisions that have impacted my life to the very depths of my being:
 
1.  I was hurting so much that I knew no one could ever hurt me so deeply again in my life.  I decided that I would never again try to be something or someone I was not, just to please others — I vowed I would be completely authentic for the rest of my life, even if what I believed and felt was different from what others wanted to hear.  To this very day as a speaker,  I am the same person on the platform as I am off the platform, and I have begged my friends and family to challenge me immediately if they ever see this changing.
 
2. In my grief, I powerfully experienced the belief that “Every day is a gift from God.”  Up to that point, I had been able to plan my life, and if I worked hard, I was able to achieve all the lofty goals I had set for myself.  However, I quickly learned that I am NOT in control and that I must be grateful for each day of life and live it to the fullest.  During my darkest time, a friend gave me a book by Jess Lair titled I Ain’t Much, Baby, But I’m All I’ve Got!  In the book he talks about living five minutes at a time.  There were many, many days when the depression was so great that I couldn’t even face surviving until noon; however, with prayer, I could always get through five minutes.  This experience taught me the gift of living fully in the present.  When I am with you, I am completely and totally with you, and although I do some planning, I know deep in my heart that the only surety I have is this immediate moment.
 
Elizabeth Kubler Ross’s thought has deeply touched my heart, not only because of my life, but also as a reminder of the lives of others.  Everyone has experienced pain and suffering in ways we cannot even imagine, and as we interact with other human beings, we must always keep that thought in mind.  Sometimes we are blessed to be able to hear their stories; however, other times we can only acknowledge how little we really know of the experiences of their lives and treat them with kindness and respect even if they don’t “deserve” it.  I recently left this thought on my voice mail, “Be kind.  Everyone you meet is carrying something.”  
 
If you are going through a difficult time in your life, or if you have a loved one who is suffering, hold onto the thought that no matter how awful the situation may be now, good can eventually come from it if we can open ourselves to God’s love and the love of those around us.  We must be gentle with ourselves–it took me almost 5 years to be nearly “whole” again–yet I could never be the person I am today nor do the work I am doing that I know is changing lives if it had not been for that pain and suffering.  In the midst of your pain or the pain of others, always remember, “BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE DO NOT JUST HAPPEN!”  And when you are blessed to meet one of those “beautiful people,” never feel envious or inadequate.  Remember they, too, have suffered and ask to hear their story. You will be more beautiful as a result.
